The glacial lake that once covered the area where Toronto is situated is called Lake Iroquois. This ancient lake formed during the last Ice Age, approximately 12,000 years ago, as glaciers melted and retreated. Lake Iroquois was part of a larger system of glacial lakes in the region and has since been replaced by Lake Ontario. Its shoreline is reflected in the topography and geography of modern-day Toronto.
