What were peoples reactions to World War 1?

When the war started, everyone thought it would be a quick and easy war because of all the new weapons. However, as the war dragged on, many people began to think differently. Governments began to wage something called total war - where all participating countries devote all their resources to the war effort.

Almost every able-bodied person was put to work, unemployment in Europe almost disappeared, factories were told what to produce and how much.
