Why was there high amounts of nativism?

High amounts of nativism often arise from economic, social, and political anxieties within a country. During periods of economic downturn or job scarcity, native populations may feel threatened by immigrants who are perceived as competitors for jobs and resources. Additionally, cultural differences and fears of losing national identity can fuel resentment towards newcomers.
