How many starters are there on a baseball team?

On a typical professional Baseball team, there will be 14 starters if the league allows for a designated hitter (13 if no DH):

* 5 starting pitchers, assuming a 5-man rotation

* Catcher

* 1st Base

* 2nd Base

* 3rd Base

* Shortstop

* Left Field

* Center Field

* Right Field

* Designated Hitter (not relevant if the league does not allow the DH)

This does not account for a "platoon" type of situation where a manager may alternate starters at a position due to recovery from injury, evaluation, or if the opposing pitcher is either left or right-handed.
