On Friday, October 13, 1307, the King of France, Philip IV, ordered the arrest of the Knights Templar, a medieval Christian military order. Many Templars were imprisoned, tortured, and executed on charges of heresy and other offenses. This event marked the beginning of the downfall of the Templars, culminating in their official dissolution by Pope Clement V in 1312. The date has since become associated with superstition and bad luck, often referred to as "Black Friday."
