The leadership of North Korea has been handed down from father to sone for three generation. The supreme leaders of the DPRK was originally Kim Il-sung (1948 - 1991) , who was succeeded by his son Kim Jong-il (1991 - 2011) , and his grandson Kim Jong-un (2012 - present).
