The verb to flame in an internet context means to argue with another person online, generally in a way that abandons logic, common sense or any amount of personal propriety. Swearing, vicious ad hominem attacks, and excessive use of the caps lock are common features. When two or more users flame each other, it is called a flame war. Such wars are usually confined to forums and comments sections of public websites, and are harmless if annoying. The anonymity of all parties protects them. However, in a social networking context, people are more likely to have their real names and photos published so flaming can have real world consequences.
Flaming as an adjective is also a slang term for an obvious homosexual.
