What does counting coupe mean?

Counting coupe is a term that describes a way of Native American warfare where no blood was shed, but rather hitting your opponent with a stick or such on the head was the way win by basically embarrassing him. May seem odd to current American culture but in its context where honor was more valuable than life it was an effective way to pose war and determine victory.
