What were condoms created for?

There are female condoms (called "female condom" and sold by Mayer Laboratories). They sort of look like a long skinny bag, and line the vagina to help protect against pregnancy and disease. They are available in drugstores.

There are also diaphragms.... sheilds which, used with or without spermicide, are inserted into the vaginal canal & cover the cervix, to prevent against pregnancy,
