How do you file taxes on a non employee compensation?

Review Form 1099-G that you received from your state which will show what you've been paid.

If you are using Turbo Tax go to the Federal Taxes tab and under Wages & Income, scroll down to "Other Common Income" and click Start next to the first line which says, "Tax Refunds, Unemployment, Other 1099-G."
