Vicodin contains acetaminophen, normally 500mg of it. Drinking alcohol along with acetaminophen can screw up your liver, especially if you drink more than 2 or 3 drinks a day normally. Most of the time and for most people, a glass or 2 of wine, 2 beers, or 2 mixed drinks won't kill you, but it's best to avoid alcohol entirely if you're taking anything with acetaminophen in it--and that's a LOT of different drugs including Tylenol, Excedrin, Vicodin, Percocet, etc. I've done it plenty of times with no harmful effects, but that was when I was young and stupid--it only takes once to kill you.
Drinking alcohol with Valium will intensify the effect of both the Valium and the alcohol. Again, one or two drinks won't kill you, but it might if you're behind the wheel of a car. Best to avoid one or the other.
