Between 1840 and 1850, the United States made several significant land acquisitions. The Texas Annexation in 1845 brought a large territory that had previously been an independent republic into the U.S. The Oregon Treaty of 1846 established U.S. control over the Oregon Territory, settling a boundary dispute with Britain. Additionally, the Mexican-American War (1846-1848) resulted in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which ceded vast territories including present-day California, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, and parts of Colorado and Wyoming.
