Hernán Cortés primarily visited what is now Mexico during his expedition in the early 16th century. He is best known for leading the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire, which culminated in the capture of Tenochtitlán, the Aztec capital, in 1521. Cortés also explored parts of Central America, including modern-day Honduras, during his conquests.
