Art Deco was named after the 1925 Paris Exposition des Arts Decoratifs. It did not get its name until the 1960s when there was a revival in interest in the decorative arts of the 1920s and 30s and a major analysis of the work from that time was begun by Bevis Hiller who wrote the first book about Art Deco in 1968. Before that time the design of that time would have been refered to as Art Moderne, or Streamlined, or Cubist, or a whole range of different terms.
