What are 3 reasons that people torture others?

There are a number of reasons why people torture others. Here are some:

1. They may have deep hatred or a desire for revenge.

2. They suffer psychopathy and genuinely enjoy others being in pain.

3. The person has something they want such as property or information, and they will torture to force out that information.

We could add war crimes, but that would include any or all of the above. They may actually hate their enemies, enjoy seeing them suffer, or need to extract information from them.
