The first battle of the Revolutionary War occurred at Point Pleasant, Virginia, On October 10, 1774. A large Shawnee Indian Army under Chief Cornstalk attacked a Virginia Army led Colonel Lewis. The Indians considered it a sneak attack. Since the Americans expected a sneak attack, they had prepared for it. The attack totally failed with many Shawnee deaths. The battle of Point Pleasant convinced American colonists they must prepare to defend themselves.
