What would happen if the ossicles become fused?

If the ossicles, which are the three tiny bones in the middle ear (malleus, incus, and stapes), become fused—a condition known as ossicular chain fixation—this can lead to conductive hearing loss. The fusion prevents the ossicles from moving freely, impairing their ability to transmit sound vibrations from the eardrum to the inner ear. As a result, patients may experience diminished hearing sensitivity and difficulty in perceiving sounds, particularly at lower frequencies. Treatment often involves surgical intervention to restore mobility to the ossicular chain.
