How did the Chinese government respond to the democratic protest in Tienanmen Square?

Years after the "Incident", many protests and marches has been made to get the government to answer and apologize.

However, the Chinese government refused to respond and ignored the massacre completely, banning the Word "6/4 massacre (六四)" in China websites, and dictating anyone who speaks of it in mainland China.

Many believes the government wants the children of China to forget such horrors, to defend their power.
