What is the effect of using short sentences whilst action is occurring?

Short Words make the writing move faster. Short sentences make it move faster, too. Action scenes need to move quickly.

When you have a long sentence, with many long Words and perhaps unfamiliar phrases or idioms, the reader slows down to make sure he or she is not missing anything, and this slows down the action.
