Adam Weishaupt was the founder of the Bavarian Illuminati, which was a secret society, started in 1776. It opposed mythical beliefs, preconception of ideas, religious impact, misuse of state power and encouraged womenâ??s education and gender equality. The Illuminati were banned in 1785; although there are rumors of present day members these claims are unconfirmed.
