Jean-Baptiste Lully lived primarily in France, where he became a prominent composer and musician during the reign of King Louis XIV. Originally from Florence, Italy, he moved to France in his youth and eventually became a naturalized French citizen. Much of his work was centered in the royal court of Versailles, where he composed operas and ballets that contributed significantly to the development of French Classical Music.
