The unrest in Haiti during 1980s was a result of ineptitude of Jean-Claude Duvalier's government. Government's mishandling of economics and rampant corruption led to severe economic crisis and widespread poverty. The situation also worsened upon outbreak of AIDS and African Swine Flu. Health concerns severely affected tourism industry in Haiti and more economic misery for people. This led to wide spread riots and protests against the government and Duvalier had to flee from country to seek exile in France.
