What evidence is not used to support the theory that the continents were once connected?

There are truly only two pieces of evidence that supports this, although they are huge:

1. The continents fit together, like a puzzle
2. There are species of plants and animals with slight alterations (due to adapting to different environments) present in contrasting continents and were not placed there by humans or spread by other animals (such as birds)
