What explorers crossed the rocky mountains?

The first known explorers to cross the Rocky Mountains were Lewis and Clark in 1805, as part of their expedition to explore the newly acquired Louisiana Purchase. Later explorers, such as John C. Fremont and Jedediah Smith, also crossed the Rocky Mountains in the early 19th century.
