Why is Lourdes a popular name in Spanish?

Lourdes is a market town in France where Bernadette Soubirous saw visions of a Lady in a Grotto. Bernadette was persecuted by the Catholic Church but later canonized and elevated to Sainthood. She is reportedly responsible for many miraculous cures. The female names Lourdes and Bernadette are both very popular with Catholics.
