Mario Segale was an American businessman and real estate developer, best known for being the inspiration behind the name of the iconic video game character Mario from Nintendo. He was the landlord of the warehouse that Nintendo of America rented in the 1980s, where the character was created. Segale's name was used by game designer Shigeru Miyamoto, and the character debuted in the 1981 game "Donkey Kong." Segale passed away on October 27, 2020, at the age of 84.
