In zlata's diary why does the family sleep in the sitting room?

Zlata's family slept in the sitting room during the siege of Sarajevo to be closer to each other and to stay safe during potentially dangerous situations such as bombings or attacks. Sleeping together in one room made it easier for them to escape quickly if needed. Additionally, it provided a sense of comfort and security during a very uncertain and stressful time.
