Australia is a vast country, and there is no set temperature it can be at Christmas time. Summers throughout the country vary, and even in the south they can change from one day to the next.
Temperatures in the south (oddly enough) can be among the hottest at Christmas, easily exceeding 42 degrees Celsius for many days at a time, and contributing to severe bushfire conditions.
It must be remembered, however, that not all of Australia experiences this extreme of heat. Many areas of Australia are pleasant to live in, with temperatures rarely being uncomfortably hot. An average for Christmas in Brisbane, capital of Queensland, is around 30 degrees Celsius, but the likelihood of high humidity makes this temperature more uncomfortable.
