Americans over eat so it is hard to say. Proper nutrients is key. Fats are the highest in calories at 9kcal per gram. If you have a low activity level a safe range would be between 1500 and 1800 calories. If you are very active or in the last trimester of your pregnancy it is 200 to 500 calories more. Most those calories should come from protiens, fruits, vegs and healthy grains.
