What are the requirements to become a gun owner?

In the US, you must be an adult, and not prohibited by law from owning a gun. You are prohibited if you are in the US illegally, have been convicted of any felony, or any crime of domestic violence. You cannot be a user of illegal dugs, have been found to be mentally incompetent, or be hiding from the police. You also cannot be a US citizen, and have renounced your citizenship.
