How many cards do you pass out in spit?

In the card game Spit, each player typically starts with a pile of 26 cards. Players then create a smaller, face-down pile of five cards to use during the game. The remaining cards are placed in the center as the draw pile. The goal is to play cards from your pile onto the center piles as quickly as possible.
