internet - Cable, old technology copper coax able, or newer tech fiber optic. Although some are transmitted via satellite.
Telephone calls - two types here:
- Land Line - hard wired calling is done via wire transmission lines primarily. Especially domestically. Some international calls are transmitted via satellite, but few.
- Cellular - cellphone technology is as old as dirt. Well, not quite, but close. There is no magic here; calls from phones are transmitted via radio waves to cell towers. From cell towers, calls are routed through a digital switch and transmitted via radio, or more often via hard lines to the main switch. From the main, calls may be routed via radio, satellite (still radio), or hard lines. Cellular telephones are essentially newer technology walky talkies.
