Nowadays, the main industries of the UK are in the service and manufacturing sectors- that is retail, light / medium manufacturing industry (i.e. car production, light goods, printing, tyres, household goods etc. etc.), computer software, pharmaceuticals and so on. Tourism also accounts for a lot, and so does agriculture. The UK does still have a bit of heavy industry left (a few mines, steelworks and two or three shipyards), although most of these were destroyed by the Thatcher Government in the 1980s and have never been revived.
