Probably one of the most famous recent medical missionary was Mother Theresa, a Catholic nun who worked with the poor. In fact, almost all Catholic convents have had medical missionaries. Many non-Catholic churches have medical teams as part of missionary work, for example, the missionaries who were present in Haiti for many years, long before the earthquake.
Historically, every church has used medical missionaries.
David Livingstone was a Scottish Missionary in Africa, who went to medical school.
