I think it reduces the concentration as H+ ions attach to the Carbonate radicals. H+ ( whatever ele n the stomach like OH- ) radicals from water.>> H+ & OH- + Ca+ & CO3 will give CaOH + H2CO3 I think!!>> WATER + CalciumCarbonate = Calcium Hydroxide and HydrogenCarbonate H2O + CaCO3 = CaOH + H2CO3 or something like that. I know the above equation is NOT balanced.
