There were originally 12 rights to form the Bill of Rights, and then two were taken off later on. The rights are:
1. Freedom of speech, religion, assembly, and press and petition.
2. Right to bear arms
3. Troops cannot be quartered in homes without owner's consent.
4. Police cannot conduct unreasonable searches and seizures without a warrant
5. Right to the Miranda Warning, protection against self-incrimination, no double jeopardy, and the right to a grand jury. The defendant can also refuse to answer any questions asked in court.
6. Right to a speedy and public trial; right to an impartial jury; right to an attorney. If one cannot be afforded, one will be appointed.
7. Right to a jury trial; no fact tried by a jury shall be otherwise reexamined. In other Words, the judge cannot overrule a jury's decision.
8. No excessive fine; no cruel or unusual punishments; punishments are proportionate to the crime.
9. Certain rights not written in the Constitution are held by the people, because not all rights can be written down on paper.
10. Powers not given to the national government are retained by the states.
