Why do owls have gizz?

Owls have gizzards to aid in the digestion of their food. As carnivorous birds, they consume whole prey, including bones and fur, which cannot be digested. The gizzard grinds these materials down, allowing the owl to extract nutrients, while the indigestible parts are eventually regurgitated as pellets.
