No gautam surname mainly used by brahmin,bhumihar brahmin and rajputs espically in bihar gautam surname used by brahmin,bhumihar and rajput( districts are-buxar,rohtas,bhojpur,chhaora,begusarai,munger,patna,mithlanchal and magadh area) also in rajasthan,10 districts of Uttar Pradesh,mp,chhatisgarh,jharkhand(as decendents of mahrishi gautam)

but sc people also use this surname as they had turned themselves to buddhist in 25 districts of up and delhi and in some parts of maharastra
