What are the disadvantages of self enclosed seam?

A self-enclosed seam is one in which the fabric is folded over twice, so that the raw edge is not exposed. Some disadvatages may be:

• It can be a bit bulky, as it creates 3 layers of fabric
• It shortens the hemline more, so you have to account for that while cutting your fabric
• It can create a weight at your hemline, which may make the fabric drape improperly
