Resting does not count as sleep. While both activities involve relaxation and reduced activity, sleep is a distinct physiological state characterized by specific brain wave patterns, decreased responsiveness to external stimuli, and restorative functions. During sleep, the body undergoes processes that are crucial for physical and mental health, which do not occur during mere resting. Therefore, while resting is beneficial, it doesn’t provide the same restorative benefits as sleep.
