What is a bulkanized state?

The term is "Balkanized." It means a single state breaks up nto smaller units based on different culture, language, religion, etc. The term comes from the countries is the Balkan Mountains of Eastern Europe who have always had difficulty banding together into larger states. Over the years, these have included Serbia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Romania, Yugoslavia, Albania, etc.
