Present president of Pakistan

Asif Ali Zardari was the President of Pakistan in 2009, elected in 2008 to succeed Pervez Musharraf, who resigned. The interim President was Muhammad Mian Soomro, the chairman of the Pakistani Senate. Zardari became president on 2008 September 9.

Asif Ali Zardari is also the chair person of Pakistan People's Party and the husband of the late twice Pakistan prime minister, Benazir Bhutto.
