How did the revolt of 1857 spread?

On 9 May 1857,85 Indian soldiers in Meerut were dismissed and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for refusing to accept the greased cartridges. The imprisonment of soldiers was like challenging the huge authority of Indian soldiers.
