Poetry is condensed thought, and therefore
needs more perseverance for thoughts to process. Poetry also has to
obey strict rules of rhythm, rhyme and metre and has to adhere to
form, and therefore it is more strenuous to create poetry. Due to
these reasons authors in the past seldom chose poetry over prose.
For them, writing prose was easier. Now times have changed,
literary critics have softened, and people have unilaterally and
liberally abandoned metrical form in poetry. So, anyone can write
poetry. It is now even taken for granted that poetry does not need
not only metrical form but punctuation, capitalization, etc, also.
So, writing poetry has now been made easy by insolent writers who
care for no rules. Accordingly, inferior authors have begun to
choose poetry over prose. This does not apply to those born with
genuine talent in writing poetry and follow rules of metrical form
which they do not find difficult to follow.
