How many states had to approve the constitutional convention of 1787 before I went into affect?

The Constitutional Convention of 1787 required approval from nine out of the thirteen states for the new Constitution to go into effect. This requirement was established in Article VII of the Constitution. Ultimately, the Constitution was ratified by the necessary nine states by June 1788, allowing it to be enacted.
