What kind of party is a rave party?

Rave parties tend to be on a grander scale than most parties and prior to commercialization were located in well kept secret locations. They are known for the drug use that occurs there due to it being a sort of "hippie" movement from the 60s. It turns out this is universally false as most of the times they're just large social gatherings.
