Charles S. Deneen (born May 4, 1863 in Edwardsville, Illinois; died February 5, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois) succeeded Richard Yates Jr. as the twenty-third Governor of Illinois, serving between January 9, 1905 and February 3, 1913, including the whole of 1908.
