How have succulents adapted to there environment?

Succulents have adapted to their environments primarily by developing thick, fleshy leaves or stems that store water, allowing them to survive in arid conditions with infrequent rainfall. They often have a waxy coating that reduces water loss through evaporation. Additionally, many succulents possess shallow root systems to quickly absorb moisture from light rains, and some have adapted to photosynthesize at night (a process called CAM photosynthesis) to minimize water loss during the hotter daytime hours. These adaptations enable them to thrive in harsh, dry environments where other plants may struggle.
