Can you take a throughly cleaned bong water pipe in your checked luggage in a domestic US flight?

I recently discussed this with a sales representative at a local shop called Herbal Alternatives. According to him, as long as no illegal residue can be found in the water pipe, it is not illegal. I suggest soaking it in some bleach water and then cleaning it very well with soap and water.
