Flower coloring is the technique of placing fresh cut flowers into water containing food coloring. Warm water encourages better absorption than cold water. Florists also will cut the flowers under water using a sharp knife, as this prevents air bubbles and tissue damage from blocking the stem's cambial layer. If the process is successful, then the coloring will appear on flowers within 24 hours.
